A day out in Brighton!

On Friday we were lucky enough to have the chance to head down to the South coast for the day to attend the much anticipated brightonSEO event. BrightonSEO is an annual conference with a multitude of huge sponsors – including Moz and PR Newswire – and an impressive list of contributors and speakers, so we were understandably pretty excited!

Location

Having never visited Brighton before, the conference provided not only an interesting opportunity to hear from the industry leaders but also a chance to experience the city. Luckily it was a hot and sunny day, so during the breaks we managed to have a look around and familiarise ourselves – and we’ll definitely be back.

The event itself is held in the centre of the city at Brighton Dome, with two alternate venues for other speakers. Unfortunately the smaller venues had issues with capacity and so we stuck to the main Dome throughout the day – however, lead organiser Kelvin Newman posted to say that some of the oversubscribed talks will be recorded as webinars so we can catch up online (thank you Kelvin!).

Despite missing a few of the talks because of these issues, the talks that we did manage to attend were fantastic – informative and interesting, and most importantly engaging and well prepared overall!

Highlights

For me, there were two talks in particular that stood out in terms of subject and general delivery, both of which were focusing on links. The first was from Aleyda Solis and the second from Kirsty Hulse – two very different presentations but essentially giving insight into the merging ground between links onsite, marketing, and PR.

SEO is a constantly changing process and so these talks were really helpful in boosting understanding of how to integrate different aspects of marketing into your individual SEO techniques so to continue getting the best positive results. You can find their separate presentations online, and they’re definitely worth a look!

Overall

The day in general was an absolute goldmine of information, and also a fantastic way to meet new people within the industry.

As is the case with all areas of marketing, digital or otherwise, keeping up to speed with the latest news and ideas is a great way to keep ahead of the game. BrightonSEO was the perfect way to learn from the best and inspire new methods for our own work, so we’ll definitely be returning. And if the brilliant talks aren’t enough to convince you, the name tags are pretty good souvenirs too!
